Middy Run

This year's Run to the Mid Suffolk Railway better known as the "Middy" started on a bright cool morning from Carbrooke High Barn. 23 riders and 2 passengers signed on with Deborah.

Several riders had not been seen for a while Grace and Clyde had broght one of their mates Tony up from Chelmsford and we had several local riders who had not done a Run before.

There was a large choice of machinery from Andrew's Grandad's much modified 1926 V Twin AJS to Grace on an ex-Australian Post Office delivery bike.

The morning run took us through Hargham, Botesdale and Thornham Magna before a short ride on the A140 turning off to Weatheringsett and the Middy Railway yard. All bikes parked along the pickett fence for the public to view. Tea sandwiches and cakes were available in the cafe, there was a real ale bar further along the track. One of the volunteers offered to show us around the Ruston diesel shunting engine him and his brother were restoring. He gave a very interesting 30 minute talk on the engine finally starting up the 40 litre engine.

The afternoon return route took us back through Gasthorpe, Snetterton and Lower Stow Bedon finishing back at High Barn to a welcome tea and coffee plus an array of sandwiches and cakes put out by Deborah.

Steve was delayed after Andrew's AJS broke down a couple of miles from the finish and Geoff broke down on two bikes which must be a record. Pictures from Steve.
